    Superintendent’s Report – January 28, 2008

    Highlights:

·The first semester of the 2007-08 school year is over, and both the Moffat School and the Crestone Charter School had very good first semesters judging by the hard work and engagement exhibited by students and staff. Prior to the break both schools had very good music presentations for parents and the public. The two week holiday break was needed and appreciated, but everyone was ready to get back to school on January 7th and return to the business and fun of learning.
·The superintendent search process continues. With the screening of applications complete, the board has now reviewed the results of the background checks. Please note: the work session prior to the Jan. 28th board meeting has been cancelled. Reminder, there is a work session on Wednesday, February 6, 4:00p.m., at Moffat, with Bob Cito, for the purpose of creating interview questions. Interviews are scheduled for Saturday, February 23rd, with an informal social evening slated for Friday, February 22nd.

·The CASB Winter Legislative Conference is coming up in February as well (February 21st and 22nd). This conference is an opportunity to connect to the legislative process at the capital. The speakers, meetings and workshops at this conference are excellent. We will leave on Wednesday, February 20th and return late on February 21st in order to be back for the tour and social evening with superintendent candidates.

·The Annual Accountability Report to the Public is complete and has been approved by CDE. You can view the report by visiting the district web site at www.moffat.k12.co.us and clicking on “Annual Reports” on the left. The report contains improvement plans, assessment data, accountability data (accreditation, AYP, highly qualified teacher data), graduation rates, graduation requirements, etc. Other information is available on our new site as well, which we are in the process of constructing.

·Moffat 2 District’s 2006-07 Accreditation Report from CDE is included in the board packet. We will continued to be accredited by the state.

·We will be implementing a new assessment data software, called Alpine Achievement Systems, which will allow us to more easily access, manage and use student assessment data to track students’ progress and make program and instructional changes as needed. We will be joining several districts in the San Luis Valley in order to get a reduced group cost and to have combined trainings.

·Our application for Conservation funds from Saguache County has been approved for $5,000.00. We will put these funds towards equipment to improve the play field south of Moffat School.

·A big thank you to the community volunteers who judged the Moffat School local National History Day competition in January – Jean Adams, Hamilton Brannan, Miriam Brannan, Barbara Hepburn, Jeff Sorensen, Peggy Godfrey and Robin Blankenship. On to regionals at the end of this month, and hopefully to state in May and nationals in June.

·Meetings Past, Present and Future: 504’s, IEP’s, Superintendent Advisory Council, Vocational Advisory Council, Moffat and CCS staff discussing exceptions to the Kindergarten entrance age requirement, Colorado Reading First budget webinar.
