    Principal’s Report
    Moffat School – Michelle Hashbarger
    May 14, 2008
     
    April 17 – The Knowledge Bowl team competed at the State Knowledge Bowl Competition in Colorado Springs. Linda Eickhoff attended the Twice Exceptional Workshop in Alamosa on the 17th and 18th.
     
    April 18 – The Reading First Team attended the Reading First Spring Conference in Colorado Springs.
     
    April 19 – The Moffat Prom and dinner (catered by Robin Rosenberg) was held in the gym. Two Weeks in Figi played live music for the students and chaperones enjoyment. There was an after-prom party with food, games and prizes – it was a successful evening!
     
    April 22 – The middle school students went to the Sand Dunes for Earth Day to help with some clean up activities for the day.
     
    April 23 – The Juniors were tested on the ACT State assessment during the morning half of the day. The kindergarten students enjoyed the day at Mrs. Maez’s Villa Grove home. Michelle Hammel was honored at the San Luis Valley Teacher of the Year Dinner in Alamosa – Ms. Hammel is this year’s Moffat Teacher of the Year.
     
    April 24 – Julie Trujillo attended a Special Ed training at BOCES in Alamosa.
     
    April 25 – This Day was a make-up day – several HS students went to Penitente Canyon to help do some trail work with the Saguache Forest Service, a small group of students worked at the Atalanta garden in Crestone. The MS students either were in school enjoying a lesson on cooking or they were at the track meet in Del Norte.
     
     
    April 28 – The kindergarten through 2nd grades enjoyed the 911 presentations that Mrs. Benton set up.
     
     
    April 30 – Melissa from the Southwest Conservation Corps came to the school to talk to students between the ages of 14 to 17 years of age about summer employment opportunities. Several students completed their applications in hopes of getting a job for the upcoming summer months. Mr. Frey and a few of his shop students took a field trip to a machine shop in Monte Vista.
     
    May 1 – The 2nd grade students took a field trip to Fort Garland. The pre-school and kindergarten students enjoyed their annual cookout at the Crestone Park. 
     
    May 5– Eli, Michelle, Linda E and Charlie attended the Alpine Training in Alamosa. Moffat School has purchased this service to help house our data in a better way so that it is easily accessible and user friendly. This system will help us create reports and begin to work with the secondary teachers around the idea of using the data in an RTI (Response to Intervention) way. The MS students who read for 30 documented hours were treated to an afternoon of swimming at Hooper pool. The Senior students presented their Senior Projects to a panel of judges from 5 to 7:30pm. Celebrated Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week May 5th through May 8th.
     
    May 6 – The 5th through 8th grade students went on a field trip to the Blanca Wetlands. Mrs. Benton attended a Counselor luncheon in Alamosa. 
     
    May 7 – The District Accountability Committee met to discuss the end of year progress towards our school goals. Overall this has been a successful year! Had one student who had to makeup the ACT test session since they were absent for the first session in April.
     
    May 8 – The Elementary students (K-5th) enjoyed their annual field trip to the Sand Dunes. 
     
    May 9 – The Reading First Team held a BLT meeting to score the BEAR test data, celebrate the 3rd grade CSAP scores and to finish the online assessments for the CRF book study – How The Brain Learns.
     
    Upcoming Events:
    May 10 – Shop field trip to Santa Fe
    May 12 – Hashbarger at the Reading Summit in Denver, 7th/8th grade overnight field trip
    May 13 – Open House for Mr. Dokson 4:30-6:30, 7th/8th grade return 4:00pm, 2nd and 4th grades to Russel Lakes, Mr. Freys shop classes will install the benches they made for the Town of Moffat
    May 14 – 1st grade field trip to Royal Gorge, ILP meetings, Honor Roll Movie Trip
    May 15 – Spring Concert, 4th grade to Rendezvous, ILP meetings
    May 16 – BEAR data due for RF grant
    May 19 – Elementary Field Day(am) and Swim Day at Hooper(pm)
    May 20 – Last day for Elementary, MS Awards/potluck 6:00pm
    May 21 – No Elementary, HS students field trip to Elitch Gardens, MS Bowling
    May 22 – Teacher Workday, HS Awards/Potluck 6:00pm
    May 23 – Teacher Workday, Secret Pal Brunch, Graduation Rehearsal
    May 24 – Graduation Ceremony 1:00pm.
